CUSTOMS CLEARANCE IN THAILAND

Thanks to the free trade agreements (FTAs) signed between China and Thailand, most of import duties are no longer applied for the majority of products when importing in Thailand from China.

We recommend using Royaltainer Corporation for all customs clearances services:

Royaltainer

Duties are no longer applied on dairy goods, medicines, dishwashers, and much more. This kind of actions have been undertaken to generate more and more trade between both countries, and more broadly all over ASEAN. This was made to allow the Thai manufacturer to import cheap raw materials and export at a lower price too. In this way, depending on the products you need to import into the country, you might be able to benefit from this kind of tax exemptions.

Another category of products not subject to customs duties are the “Privileged goods”. Privileged goods benefit from agreements with the United Nations, or ruled by International Laws, or International Treaties, or by reciprocity through diplomatic channel.

Thailand

Remark SINO : You don’t have to provide an import license for every product. It will depend on the products you want to import within the Thai territory. You can have a look at the customs official website to know whether you should apply for a permit or not. Here you will find the official website: Thai Customs.

SUMMARY

What duties and taxes will I pay for my goods ?

Remark SINO : That’s a priority to think of when you’re working in International Trade.

All goods imported into Thailand are ruled by the Customs Act, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act and the Regulation of Imports and Exports Act.

GST on Imports

Standard-rate GST on Imports in Thailand is 7% until September 2018. From this date onwards, Thailand will apply a 10% GST for all goods and services imported into Thailand and not subject to exemptions.

*The rate of 0% is only applicable for exports of goods and services.

Remark SINO : All other goods are not subject to duties, and are subject to GST only. GST in Thailand equals to 7% of the CIF value of your shipment.

Here are some useful tools to calculate the tariff barriers of your products between the two countries

Pour un transport en DAP ou DDU (hors droit de douane et taxes), le transitaire prend en charge l’ensemble du transport.

Cet incoterm peut s’apparenter à des prestations dites de « porte à porte », où votre expédition sera prise en charge de bout en bout.

Transit times

Remark SINO: As an example, a flight from Shanghai to Thailand takes approximately 4 hours. But, this is not the only thing that has to be taken into consideration. An air shipment is made up of several logistic steps, that can cause unexpected delays or troubles.

First things first: when it comes to transit times for your air shipment, you have to keep in mind we are not only talking about the flight duration. The whole process of shipping by air is complex, and many processes have to be carried out.

*Concretely, we have to close a deal with the airline company, book space for your parcel, arrange storage prior to departure if needed, carry out customs clearance, etc.

In this way, even though the flight duration is around 4hours, don’t expect to receive your parcel within this amount of time. Additionally, every shipment is different. It means that the transit times will vary according to the type of cargo to be cleared out, the option you choose (priority express freight, regular air freight, etc.).

Anyway, keep in mind that the following steps have to be followed when shipping by air:

  • Step 1 – Gathering details about the shipment: type of cargo, weight, destination, service required…
  • Step 2 – Sino Shipping closes shipment with the airline company
  • Step 3 – Storage at warehouses prior to departure
  • Step 4 – Flight duration
  • Step 5 – Customs clearance
  • Step 6 – Cargo arrival and delivery services (if required)

*Considering only flight duration would thus be a huge mistake.

SINO Advice : The best solution is to contact your SINO Shipping advisor. Once we have clarified what kind of shipment you need us to arrange, we’ll be able to forecast transit times and all related information.

Air Freight Rates

The weight is not the only factor affecting the quotation. Naturally, the price will also depend on the service you require. A door-to-door service will obviously be more expensive than a door-to-airport.

how-to-calculate-gross-weight-airfreight-shipments
airfreight-volumetric-weight-formula

*If the volumetric weight is higher than the actual weight of your box, the carrier will quote based on this weight. You can use online chargeable weight calculators to make it easier, now that you understand how it works.

CROSS BORDER FROM/TO THAILAND

truck

Road freight will be the most convenient option if :

  • You need a Door to Door service
  • You live far from the airport/port of arrival
  • You’re not in a hurry to receive your goods

Remark SINO : The other option you have for your shipment from China to Thailand is cross-border trucking service. This option is at the same time cheap and relatively fast. It seems like it is the in-between solution between air and sea freight. Obviously, shipping by road from the eastern part of China would not be cost-effective.

Cross-border from the Southern and Western part of China is possible by crossing Vietnam and Laos, before reaching Thailand. We can delivery to any place in Thailand, from the countryside to the main cities like Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, etc.

This kind of shipment requires upfront planning. Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can arrange the best routes and build up the most cost-effective option.

We offer all services related to cross border trucking:

cross-border-china-asean

FREIGHT INSURANCE

Because SINO Shipping cares about the goods you need to ship, we also provide freight insurance services. In fact, the insurance rate is calculated as follow: 1% of the declared value of the goods.

In this way, you get the value of your cargo covered in case of any damage. You should not risk shipping your products without insurance, as it can come with important additional costs for you or your business in case of unexpected event.

SINO Shipping can become your long-term partner for your shipments to the USA. If you need to set up a regular traffic from China to Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, or wherever else in the country, we’ll make sure to offer the best rates. In fact, when settling a frequent traffic, it’s way easier for us to negotiate better rates with the largest shipping lines

SINO Advice : Contact us now! A SINO advisor will get back to you within 24 hours to schedule your road freight shipment!

Transit times

Transit times between China and Thailand are shorter than sea freight, obviously. Here are two examples:

  • Hong Kong – Bangkok : 2-3 days
  • Guangzhou – Chiang Mai: 2-3 days

Remark SINO : If you need to ship from cities situated in the North-East part of the country, ocean freight is recommended, as the distance to be covered would be too important.

*Additionally, please note this is not easy to provide accurate transit times when it comes to road freight, as the number of unexpected events that may occur is greater: traffic, bad weather, etc.

At SINO Shipping, we understand how important for you it is to be kept on the loop about the status of your shipment. This is why your SINO advisor will make sure to let you know where is located at any time thanks to our updated tracking system.

ROAD FREIGHT RATES

When quoting for road freight services, many different various has to be considered: kilometers, the type of cargo, routes, surcharges if any, etc. In this way, we kindly ask our customers to contact us. Once we have clarified your needs and figured out the service you need as well as the best route that has to be used, we will be able to provide you a transparent and tailored quotation.

*This logistic option is usually appreciated by businesses who need their goods to be delivered quite quickly and at a cheaper price than air freight.

This is why we made the choice to quote individually, for every single customer requesting this kind of services. In this way, we make sure to work as close as possible to our customers’ needs, while ensuring the best quality services available on the market for your shipment from China to Thailand.
